Database

Introduction

The Common Plastic Piping Database for Timberline Estimating is designed to support piping estimating for buildings, process facilities, water treatment facilities, and other facilities which include piping of the common plastic pipe specifications.  The database supports conceptual estimating and detailed takeoff of designed piping.  It is designed to address the needs of Engineering and Design firms as well as Installation Contractors.

This database includes piping items for the common plastic piping types, sizes, schedules, and pressure ratings.  The database follows a modular database design specification so it can be expanded or merged with other modular databases without conflicts or renumbering.

Contents

The database contains approximately 960 Phases, 6400 Items, and 25 Assemblies

All Items include dual units (inch and mm; psi and bar). The database can be provided with imperial or metric quantity calculations.

The Plastic Piping Database includes

  • PVC Sch 40, 80, and DWV Pipe and Belled Fittings
  • CPVC Sch 40 and 80 Pipe and Belled Fittings
  • ABS Pipe and Belled Fittings
  • PE Pipe and Fittings
  • HDPE Pipe and Fittings in SDR 11, 17, 21, 26, 35, 41
  • PPL Pipe and Fittings
  • PVDF Pipe and Fittings
  • FRP Pipe and Fittings
  • Plastic valves as available
  • Basic Pipe Hangers, Supports, and Anchors
  • Basic Bolt and Gasket sets

Item Material Pricing

- Representative list prices are used for all material items.
- Price Update Codes – For items which match the Harrison Publishing House pricing catalogue
- Sample comparisons to standard pricing sources are available on request.

Bill of Materials – materials are coded with an organized material class structure

Item Labor Pricing

- Crew-based pricing is used for labor, with labor productivities expressed as mh/unit.
- All labor items are assigned representative productivities.
- One crew, consisting of a steamfitter/pipefitter is assigned to all labor.
- One rate table is included with a representative hourly rate for steamfitter/pipefitter.
- Productivities are based on SCI developed labor hours.  Sample comparisons to standard manhour sources  are available on request.

Assemblies

Assemblies are included to support rapid take off of either detailed or conceptual piping.

Assemblies are differentiated for differing joint methods; i.e. socket, flanged (bolted), fusion welded, bell end.

Each piping assembly includes pipe, fittings, field welds, valves, hangers and supports, and hydrotesting.  The user may enter specific quantities or select built-in calculation of quantities based on underlying calculations and tables (which are adjustable by editing the database).  The selections for calculated quantities are based on entry of pipe complexity:

- Simple; min fittings (approx. 2 ftg/100')
- Moderate; avg fittings (approx. 8 ftg/100')
- Complex; many fittings (approx. 14 ftg/100')
- Highly Complex (approx. 25 ftg/100')

Selection of labor conditions (see above) is also included.

Items are selected for all possible entries made in the assembly takeoff.  The database includes NSPC (Non Specified) items in the event the assembly takeoff entries would have otherwise selected an item which does not exist in the database.

Assembly Names

All Piping assemblies begin with an upper case P.  This will allow for merging with other databases which use the Uniformat system of assembly coding.  Although P is not defined in Uniformat, neither is it used.
